Several days after Christmas 2018, Dad and his 4 little girls arrived at the Day Center. They celebrated their Christmas in a homeless shelter in Galveston Texas. Dad said they had been there for the last 6 months after his wife left him and their girls to go back to her ex. His case manager asked him how he ended up here in Tulsa. He shared that he had researched on line and Tulsa was the only place he could find where a shelter would allow a single dad to stay. Earlier this spring, this family left the Day Center for a new place to call home.
The New Year arrived to find Mom and her 4 kids without a place to live. They had been staying in Tulsa with friends for a while, but was forced to leave after her friend’s landlord found out and threatened eviction. Prior to that, this family had been living with Mom’s dad out of town. Sadly, Grandpa died and they lost their home. With no where to turn, this family sought shelter here at the Day Center. Working with her case manager, soon she and her kids were able to move into a new place of their own.
We celebrate with both of these families as they begin their road back to self-sufficiency with new hope and a new home.
